Background:

Pierre was born an only child with a huge extended family in New Orleans with a strong Voodoo tradition. When Pierre's own magical talents began to show, he began studying under an aunt to become a houngan. The ritual aspect came easy to him, as did creating potions and charms, but Pierre being, well. Pierre. He wasn't great with the whole 'pillar of the community' aspect. Far too aloof and seemingly hostile for people to feel entirely comfortable with him.

Personality:

An intense man, Pierre has always been the kind of person who gets accused of being too serious. Not that he has no sense of humour, but he's rarely seen laughing; some people have even known him for years and never seen him smile. It's understandable that this natural dryness and his fierce temper would be mistaken for excessive seriousness. In fact, the closest friend Pierre has ever had was a man with a frankly terrible sense of humour, and despite himself, Pierre didn't hate it.

Pierre has an incredibly strong sense of right and wrong; in his heart he believes deeply in helping the helpless, despite this being something that often means he ends up in situations that escalate rapidly and dangerously. He just doesn't have it in him to stand by and do nothing, although Pierre's method of "doing something" often means running in and punching the problem until it stops. It's... Easy for people (including Pierre himself) to forget he has a keen investigative mind alongside a lifetime of practising magic and gris-gris crafting when he has a tendency to take the "punch your way through life's problems" method of dealing with things.

As mentioned, Pierre has a fierce temper. One he does his best to keep in check, but he has astoundingly little patience for being jerked around, and even less for threats toward people he cares about. An incredibly forthright man who hardly feels the need to bother with subterfuge and that's something he tends to expect from the people he speaks to.

His natural tendency towards heroism doesn't preclude the darker parts of his personality. He's entirely unafraid to kill and intimidate if it's for the best, and at 6'3" and 220 odd pounds, he strikes an imposing figure that he's unafraid to use to his advantage.
